Fans of the troubled series got a bit of perplexing news from EA regarding the status of the renamed, redesigned, and ultimately cancelled Command & Conquer title. There may be a glimmer of hope that EA hasn’t all but abandoned the series and is possibly even looking at transferring the current title to a new studio. Read on for more details.
A small bit of information from EA Support is all that anyone has to go on currently but when all you’ve got is straws one tends to grasp pretty hard.
“For those of you who bought The C&C Ultimate Collection, your early access to the beta will be honored once production of this title resumes under a new studio.”
“We would like to thank you for your time and interest in Command & Conquer, and we look forward to sharing the news with you when production resumes on this title in the future.”
In just 2 sentences they mention twice that the title will resume development at another studio. Is it possible EA support is just misinformed? Maybe, considering the company as of the last decade or so that’s highly probably. But one would hope that EA wants to get back some of the hardcore RTS gamers that left the series over time.
Editorial- Peter Downey: EA is crazy not to continue the game. The series achieved highest marks in terms of playability and balanced gameplay in the Command & Conquer: Generals Zero Hour expansion. Gameplay quality and overall direction went way down after Generals admittedly, but the series has a huge number of nostalgic fans. The one issue in my eyes with a C&C reboot is EA and their insistence on pushing the F2P pricing model. Make us pay for a generals reboot up front and if it sells well enough make a Red Alert reboot.
Printing money in my humble opinion.
