Times are tough these days, even in space it would seem. After a missed rent payment for a star system or something the largest online battle ever broke out. After over 21 hours of battle including 2000+ concurrent players over $3000 worth of virtual ships were destroyed.
Even as s a former guild leader and long time MMO player I cannot fully comprehend the scope of this battle and the damage it’s done to so many players. Destruction of this magnitude is pretty much unheard of in other games which is unfortunate because most MMOs could benefit from permadeath of owned goods in a PVP landscape.
The Eve Online community blog has a great write-up detailing the battle with fancy charts and whatnot. At the very least it’s cool to look at if you’re really into graphs and statistics.
