Microsoft’s underperforming Windows 8 is getting a bit more popular it seems. The results of the Steam Hardware Survey for November show a 4.17% increase in Steam gamers running Windows 8.1 64-bit and a very mild 0.13% increase for Windows 8.1 32-bit users. These numbers aren’t earth shattering to say the least and Windows 7 64-bit is still the market share leaders with 51.76% but maybe change is in the air.
It’s interesting to note that 3.59% of Windows 8 64-bit users changed their OS, yet 8.1 64-bit users rose by 4.17% overall. It’s safe to assume at least some of the extra 0.58% probably came from Windows 7 users upgrading to new computers or moving their current system to 8.1. Going by those numbers Windows 8.1 should overtake Windows 7 in market share in just 68 months, or 5.6 years.
Good luck Microsoft!
