Valve announced that the first version of SteamOS will be available for the brave among us to try out this Friday December the 13th.
‘SteamOS will be made available when the prototype hardware ships. It will be downloadable by individual users and commercial OEMs. (But unless you’re an intrepid Linux hacker already, we’re going to recommend that you wait until later in 2014 to try it out.)”
While it sounds exciting to test out early a new Linux distro is nothing to mess around with in general unless you’re prepared to fix issues and do some serious reading. We’ve got some Linux experience but nowhere near the level needed to feel comfortable with downloading SteamOS tomorrow. Too bad we didn’t get a Steam Machine :(
