This week, I had the pleasure of previewing Infinite Monkeys Entertainment’s Life Goes On. The game itself is unlike any I’ve encountered before, and I’m excited to share why. As the trailer says, “sometimes solving puzzles requires sacrifice.”

The first puzzle requires immediate use of this dead body mechanic, but doesn’t give you much time to think about it. You fall immediately to your death upon bed of spikes, and are forced to respawn a new character in order to move on. This allowed for a concise tutorial. Your new character falls on the body of the previous one, allowing you to continue onward.

This main mechanic allows you to progress through each level, but the circumstances upon each death are so unique that the overall system was never boring. The difficulty of each level also raised at a rate that kept me engaged, continuously learning new skills that would allow me to progress. One of my favorite parts of the early levels was brutally killing my current character over a switch that triggered the opening of a gate so that his descendant could move through to the end.

This method becomes significantly more complicated in the later levels when cannons and conveyor belts are involved. And more spikes. And spiked conveyor belts. You get the idea. As I said, everything escalated throughout the preview.

This game is wonderful so far, and while I won’t ruin the surprise, it has one of the best ending credit sequences of any game I’ve played. It’s worth the playthrough just for that. I’ll definitely be playing the full game on its release date: April 16th.
