The team behind the upcoming Skyrim mod, Skywind, have released some brand new alpha footage of their progress on the Sheogorad region.

A short preview showing the latest alpha-build footage and concepting for the Sheogorad region in Skywind. We wanted to give this region new assets to help it stand out from other areas of Morrowind, and in turn, have changed it’s original formations. As always, remember that this is early footage. Be sure to leave comments below! Enjoy!

If Skywin has slipped under your radar thus far, here’s a brief explanation of the mod and the technology behind it via their FAQ.

Q: What IS Skywind exactly?

A: It is a non-commercial, fan made modification for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that seeks to merge the amazing world of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind with the enhanced graphics and capabilities of Skyrim’s engine.

While ownership of both games is required to play, the player only actually plays Skywind using the Skyrim game, and not the older Morrowind game. This means that the user interface, combat, graphics, and system requirements for the Skywind mod are all those of Skyrim, and NOT Morrowind

Q: What do I need to run Skywind

A:You will need a copy of TES III: Morrowind, including the Bloodmoon and Tribunal expansions installed correctly on your system. Plus TES V: Skyrim of course. The exact files that you will need to run, as well as the instructions you should follow to install can be located on The Official Installation Instruction Thread.

The developers behind the painstakingly created remake of the original Half-life got approval from Valve to sell a standalone version of the mod on Steam. Black Mesa was one of the first titles approved by fans on Steam Greenlight. Originally created “just because” and released for free Black Mesa is a perfect recreation that elevates the original classic to the more modern Source engine.

It speaks volumes of the quality of this mod and the developers behind it that Valve is allowing their intellectual property to be licensed and sold on their own distribution platform.
The post Black Mesa: Source team gets approval from Valve to sell remake on Steam first appeared on Gamecrastinate.
