Despite Microsoft even holding a big event for DirectX 12 where they showed off how easily they were able to port Forza Motorsport 5 to the PC, releasing the game on PC would likely only hurt their console division in the long run.

Despite console titles being the assumed home for racing games, PC is actually the system of choice for serious motorsports fans. So what are the best alternatives to Forza Motorsport on the PC? Read on to find out our picks.

RACE Injection is the final chapter in the RACE 07 series of games, ending the award winning series on a high note. RACE Injection contains 23 new unique car models and boasts 9 new tracks from across the globe.Despite being among the oldest games on the list, RACE Injection still looks great and drives even better.
Next Car Game: Wreckfest
Wreckfest is a new demolition derby themed racing game with soft-body damage modeling, sophisticated driving dynamics and in-depth vehicle upgrading, featuring both demolition derbies and more traditional track races. It’s all about fun, breakneck racing and over-the-top crashes.Although Next Car Game: Wreckfest isn’t exactly a game dedicated to professional motorsports, it’s still a fantastic title worth your time. Featuring realistic physics and in-depth car tuning, this game might just surprise you.
Assetto Corsa
Assetto Corsa is a next-generation driving simulator for Windows PC which reproduces real-world circuits (with laserscan technology), as well as road and racing cars. The final version of the game will include a single player career, special events and will allow the player to create and customize offline.Assetto Corsa burst onto the scene as a relatively unknown title. Since release, the team has continued development with regular updates. The game has a very pleased community behind it, with nearly 3300 positive reviews on Steam.
iRacing
iRacing is about as hardcore as it gets. Racing fans looking to expand their skillset should look no further than iRacing. With the most realistic simulation available in the world, coupled with a dedicated online community, iRacing is a no brainer if your serious about motorsports.Be warned though, iRacing is a huge step up in realism compared to games like Gran Turismo and Forza

Project CARS is the ultimate driver journey!Guided, tested, and approved by a passionate community of racing fans and real-life drivers, Project CARS represents the next-generation of racing simulation as the ultimate combination of fan desire and developer expertise.Even though Project CARS hasn’t even been released yet, it looks so damn promising that we can’t help but put it in first place on our list. Developed by Slightly Mad Studios and published by Bandai Namco, Project CARS appears to be the a new contender for the most loved racing series. Gran Turismo and Forza need to watch out for this one if the game drives half as good as it looks visually.

With The Crew’s recent delay until December 2nd, racing fans on a budget might be left with a tough decision on which title to buy. While today’s announcement doesn’t explicitly mention any game in specific as being responsible for the decision to delay, going head-to-head on the same release week probably isn’t the best scenario for either game.

Slightly Mad Studios and Bandai Namco Games today announced they will be moving the release of Project CARS for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC to March 17 in North America and March 20th 2015 in Europe and Australasia.

The move positions the title away from the competitive holiday scene dominated by household names while affording the team at Slightly Mad Studios additional time to extend and polish their ground-breaking and accomplished next-gen racing experience that’s been created alongside a community of over 85,000 racing fans and real-life professional drivers.

“Our goal has always been to deliver a landmark title that encompasses the wishes and desires of racing fans from all around the world; something with features and content powered by the community that provide a truly unforgettable and pioneering experience” said Ian Bell, Head of Studio at Slightly Mad Studios. “Whilst a tough decision to make, the change in release date allows the game the greatest chance of success and visibility, and the opportunity to polish the game even further to the high standards that both ourselves and our community demand and expect. We’re eager for you all to see what we’ve been working on in just a few months.”

In addition, Project Cars will be getting a Limited Edition, which according to the announcement seems to be limited to non-US retailers GAME and Gamestop Ireland. Despite the slightly disappointing news for United States based racing enthusiasts, Projects CARS’ November 30th release date can’t come soon enough.
