The guys behind Steam greenlit game Pixel Piracy decided to take matters into their own hands and have begun seeding an official torrent for their game. It’s a bold step and maybe a bit of a publicity stunt but hell if you’re going to make a video game about pirates you might as well embrace the modern day definition as well.
Some readers may remember the whole Game Dev Tycoon fiasco from earlier in the year where the devs of that game released tainted copies on major torrent sites. This is a bit of the opposite as the Pixel Piracy devs openly say they want to assist those that would pirate the game regardless by ensuring they are virus free. Game Dev Tycoon gained a huge amount of publicity for their what would be otherwise unknown game even though their ironically ripped off the design from Kairosoft’s Game Dev Story.
No doubt Pixel Piracy’s developers took note of all the hype and decided to try to grab some for their creation. Regardless of intent offering up legitimately free copies of your creation is a bold move that hopefully will pay off for them. As teens we here at Gamecrastinate shamefully pirated everything we could get our hands on because we were poor teenagers so we get it. Kids are poor and they like video games, it makes sense that they will find a way to get what they want. We applaud Pixel Piracy and will grant them the added publicity by providing a direct link to their Desura and Steam Greenlight page.
